Julia is an independent glass blower based near Wetherby, North Yorkshire.
She studied at The National Glass Centre in Sunderland graduating in 2014 and recently set up a small glass blowing studio at her home. She is now a full – time artist, having previously worked in the NHS for 28 years.
Each piece I make is unique, made by hand using traditional techniques partnered with a contemporary aesthetic . Much of my work is influenced by my work in the NHS , the beauty and fragility of the human body and the uneasy fascination we have with medical science. I am also greatly inspired by local landscapes.
Julia appeared in the TV series Kirstie Allsopp’s Hand Made Christmas, December 2016. She was also selected by the Crafts Council for inclusion in their talent development programme, Hothouse 17. Julia has exhibited widely in 2017.
