Variations on a Theme: Tina Balmer, Louise Bell and Sarah Garvey - 14th February - 31st March, 2026

A beautiful uplifting show bringing together the work of three exciting figurative artists; painters Tina Balmer and Sarah Garvey, and sculptor Louise Bell.

Lake District based Tina Balmer (b. 1960) is a graduate of Central St Martins School of Art, London. Her work is inspired by, and a celebration of, the domestic and ordinary.  Rituals of everyday life, vases, jugs, plates and flowers inhabit her paintings in her distinctive push pull style between abstraction and realism.

The paintings in this show predominately feature Tina’s favourite flower, the nasturtium, and pottery by James Burnett Stuart.

Familiar and intimate.  We love them.

Wales based Sarah Garvey (b.1980) graduated from Central St Martins and Camberwell School of Art, London.  She later studied under renowned Cypriot British artist, Stass Paraskos, who made a significant impact on her palette and colour mixing.

Her paintings show a moment in time, pauses, where there is no performance by the observed.  Everyday moments translated in Sarah’s recognisable style where the use of colour and the rendering of light cause figures to disintegrate and reform in a beautifully tender manner.

Sussex based Louise Bell (b. 1962), graduated in 2017 with an MA in Craft from Brighton University following a Fine and Applied Art Degree at City Lit College, London.  Recognised as a talented new maker by the Craft Council in 2019, she was invited to join their Hothouse Programme.

Her wonderful ceramic sculptures are broadly inspired by ancient toys and folk art, and every sculpture is unique and hand built.

Charming, nostalgic and unique.  We are big fans.

Warm, intimate, contemporary and accessible.
