We had been admiring Boo Compton’s work for a while. The only problem was that we are based in Singapore - quite far from Silson Contemporary. We liked the work so much that we reached out to Sarah at Silson, and we’re glad we did.
She was helpful from the beginning - advised us on the fees and recommended how best to get the painting to us safely. All in, it took five working days for the painting to reach us. We received several notifications along the way from the delivery company which was reassuring.
The painting reached us in perfect condition. It’s more beautiful in person! We’re thankful to Sarah for coordinating this, and now we can’t stop looking at what else Silson has in store. Till our next piece!

We first discovered Silson Contemporary through a good friend from London. Though we were embarrassed that it was him introducing us to a gallery in our patch, we have made up for it by visiting each show since! Silson is simply the most beautiful space. We adore the time we have spent there - discovering art and artists we would never have found, and getting to know Sarah. It's been a process of discovery both in the pieces we have loved, and learning about our tastes and how to curate our own home.

Seeing pictures on the walls in a house - walking into a room or round the corner of the stairs and being caught by a piece you didn't expect, has shown us just how powerful art is, and what it can add to your life in a way that far exceeds simply finding a piece to fill a space on a wall.
We have made our first purchases of real 'art' (which is addictive) and started to discover what we love. Through the whole process Sarah has been an expert curator and adviser. She has put us at ease, and encouraged us to share our thoughts and feelings so she can guide our explorations - even offering to contact an artist on our behalf to solicit a commission - something I would never have had the confidence to do.

We feel we are on the start of a wonderful journey with both Sarah and her gallery, and are already looking forward to what the next show will bring.

I first discovered Silson Contemporary Art Gallery on Instagram through an artist, Chris Gambrell. I decided to purchase a portrait through the gallery. It was the easiest and most wonderful experience. I live in the United States and was unable to view the portrait in person before purchasing. Sarah was so kind and made the process simple and seamless while also taking the time to send me additional images of the work so I knew exactly what I was buying. The piece was exactly as described, arrived promptly, and even came with a personalized note. Sarah, thank you for helping me acquire my first painting - I can’t wait to purchase my next.

Having renovated a 70’s open plan home we realised how empty the large walls were with our exisiting art looking like postage stamps. We were looking online and in local galleries but found nothing that excited us, then an article appeared in the Yorkshire Post detailing Sarah and her gallery. We visited and fell in love! We now eagerly await each new show that Sarah puts together.
The artists we have been inspired by are diverse, from Mike Bilton to Bal Broadbent not to mention sculptors that have created the most tactile pieces that now sit in our home, Sarah even suggested one came on loan just before Christmas until we made our minds up – it took a matter of minutes once it was in situ!
Sarah has helped to show us artists whom we never would have come into contact with in a setting which has enabled us to imagine how a particular piece would look in our own home, She’s offered advise on sizing when we’ve dithered, shown us works by other artists as well as topping up coffee cups when we sit gazing at a painting figuring out where we can put it.
Once you go you won’t want to stop!

The gallery is a cornucopia of delights.
I always enjoy the wealth of objects and art to admire, and Sarah, the gallery owner, is a delight – very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful.
There is a great variety of prices and jewellery, ceramics, sculpture and paintings to enjoy. The gallery is an outstanding addition to Harrogate’s burgeoning art scene. I always find 3 or 4 pieces I’d like to buy and struggle to narrow it down! Bring your wallet.

I heard about Silson Contemporary Gallery through a family connection and started following on Instagram. I immediately loved Sarah’s collection of art and have been following with interest ever since.
Living in the South East, I haven’t been able to personally visit the gallery but have been impressed from the outset by the diverse range of art and ceramics exhibited and have been keeping an eye out for piece/s that would suit our new build home which has lots of white walls crying out for the right artwork! When the same family member bought a beautiful painting from artist, Chris Gambrell, I began to follow him too, and to look out for his works appearing in Sarah’s gallery.
Needless to say it was too difficult to choose one painting so I bought two amazing works. Sarah arranged for prompt delivery, liaising with the artist to have one piece sent directly from him.
The paintings arrived safely within 2 days and are even more beautiful in the flesh. Wonderful service and I’m now on the hunt for more – if only I lived nearer!

We have worked with Silson Contemporary for several years, and have found the service to be fabulous.
Sarah is helpful, knowledgeable and has an excellent eye - the exhibitions are always wonderfully curated.
My Clients have found several pieces through Silson, which have either added the finishing touch to a home; or indeed being the starting point to a new scheme.
More than this though, Sarah makes the whole process enjoyable and we always look forward to working with her.

I have been aware of the Silson Contemporary since it first opened in October 2016 and was delighted to finally visit during a trip to Harrogate.
As soon as Sarah greeted me at the door of her beautiful gallery-come-home I felt totally at ease – Sarah’s manner is very relaxed, and the space is just stunning, full of fabulous paintings and ceramics.
Sarah is a genius at hanging art – everything is beautifully curated and being situated in her own home allows me to actually visualize what things may look like on your own walls.
As I loaded my purchases on the first visit, I knew I would back. And I have been – each time buying something glorious.
What I particularly like about Silson it that evolves – in never stays still, the building and the rooms are the same, but the environment changes and that is something well worth making a (long) trip for!

Silson Contemporary is a fabulous gallery in the home of its owner, the very welcoming Sarah. There is a stunning changing selection of art- paintings, sculpture, ceramics and contemporary jewellery. I have bought several pieces over the last couple of years and have made many visits-sometimes just to browse. Sarah is hugely knowledgeable, great with suggestions and really very helpful. She has even visited my home to help with hanging!

We have recently bought 4 beautiful paintings from Sarah and have enjoyed the experience from start to finish. She displays art in her home very thoughtfully and in a way that is accessible, allowing you to imagine it in your own home.
The paintings and ceramics are all beautifully curated and you feel welcome in Sarah’s home/gallery from the moment you enter. There is no pressure to buy, it’s a relaxed environment- Sarah genuinely wants to share beautiful pieces with her clientele and wants them to fall in love with their purchases.
The attention to detail doesn’t stop there. Having decided to purchase, Sarah is incredibly helpful and has even arranged transport, hanging tips and framing advice and sending us a card thanking us for our custom was such a thoughtful gesture
A fantastic service throughout the whole process. I know that Sarah’s commitment to discovering new and different artists will keep us coming back and we look forward to seeing new pieces in the future.

I went to the gallery looking for paintings for a newly decorated room but with little real idea of what I wanted.
Sarah offered to come over and see the space and she then brought round a fantastic range of paintings so that we could see them in situ and live with our favourites for a few days.
As well as providing excellent guidance, Sarah helped reconcile the different artistic preferences of my husband and I! Having borrowed a few different pieces which didn’t quite work for us, Sarah suggested an artist who was not currently exhibiting with her but whose paintings we both instantly loved. She organised a visit to his studio so that we could see his complete collection. We bought a couple immediately and are thrilled with them.
The whole process was a hugely enjoyable journey and I would highly recommend not just the gallery but having a home visit to get the full benefit of Sarah’s insights.

It’s a real treat to visit Silson Contemporary, Sarah is so welcoming and it’s inspirational to see the pieces displayed in a real home setting. My pencil miniature by Joel Weaver was chosen as a gift for a big birthday, it has the most incredible detail and is something I will treasure forever. In the future I’d love to be able to buy one of the large scale oil paintings, maybe next birthday!
