Edit is a London-based painter who studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague and the Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest, where she gained her MA in Fine Arts.
Her paintings explore ideas of home and belonging through memory, place and lived experience. Working primarily in oil on linen, she paints plants and landscapes as subjects with their own presence and emotional weight rather than as descriptions of nature.
I work slowly with traditional painting techniques, often allowing the linen ground and spaces around the subject to remain visible. I’m interested in the materiality of paint and in how a painting can hold a sense of presence without everything being fully described. In my recent small floral paintings, made during a period working in The Hague, forms emerge and disappear into the exposed linen. My landscapes similarly develop through observation and memory, carrying something of a place beyond its physical appearance. I’m interested in what can be held back and felt rather than explained.
Edit has been longlisted for the Contemporary British Painting Prize and Jackson’s Painting Prize. Recent exhibitions include the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and Odyssey at Hastings Contemporary. She has also exhibited at Messums London. Her work is held in the Victoria and Albert Museum collection and in private collections in the UK and internationally.
