Edit Toaso is a London-based contemporary painter who gained her MA in Fine Arts after studying at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, The Netherlands, and the Academy of Fine Arts, Hungary. She also has a background in fashion and art psychotherapy.
Edit’s paintings are contemplative and tactile, grounded in slowness and the poetics of observation.
I work with traditional oil techniques and natural sustainable materials, building slow layers of paint that hold traces of time and gesture.
My plant portraits unfold like quiet studies of women, intimate acts of care, each one cultivated and tended. These small-scale works are intentionally intimate, inviting slow looking and a deeper attention to presence.
My landscape series, The Places I Carry, continues this exploration of belonging and memory, how weather, light, and distance can hold the feeling of home.
Edit has been longlisted for the Contemporary British Painting Prize and for the Jackson’s Painting Prize. She exhibits regularly in the UK and internationally, including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, Messums London, Unit 1 Gallery, Wimbledon Museum.
Her work is held in the Victoria and Albert Museum collection, as well as in private collections throughout the UK, Europe, the USA, Australia, and Asia.
