Originally from London, Sarah (b. 1980) completed an Art Foundation at Central St Martins and went on to study a BA in Drawing at Camberwell School of Art.

She later studied printmaking under various artists,  before joining the Printmakers Council and East London Printmakers.

Her painting began in earnest following her attendance at the internationally recognised Cyprus School of Art, Summer Studio in 2011.  Under the tutorlege of renowned Cypriot British artist, Stass Paraskos, a significant impact was made on her  palette and colour mixing.

Within the last 10 years painting has become her main practise, whilst embodying themes and lessons from print.

I’m painting pauses, sensual override, when there’s no performance, just internal experience.  There’s honesty in sensation, the emotions as unknowingly displayed by the body, as mine in the act of making. I love that the slow, measured, building, observance of a painting, can create a precipitous moment of recognition in another.

I paint what we share.

We read a book, we turn to face the sun, we see glimmers in the dark, the pleasure we get from a mug of tea.

After initial works I begin to focus on the idea of disintegration. How far can the figure dissemble and remain. This felt like a lived idea, since becoming a mother but also an adult. My body edges/boundaries are semi-permeable.

In the paintings I have been pushing the abstraction I seek by pursuing colour areas so the figures disintegrate and then reform, and an alchemy occurs.

In 2015, Sarah moved to South Wales where she now works from her rural studio in the Vale of Glamorgan.

She  exhibits widely, and was awarded prizes at the RA Summer Exhibition, 2013, and the National Print Awards, 2014.

We are delighted to have her beautiful paintings in the gallery.
