Tina, (b. 1960), graduated from St Martin’s School of Art, London with BA (Hons) Fine Art in 1983.
My painting is both inspired by, and a celebration of, the domestic and ordinary. Everyday objects representing the rituals of daily life such as vases, jugs, tea pots and flowers often from loved people, are carefully arranged on a table and from this point the paint takes over.
I am not an abstract painter but there is always a push pull between abstraction and the figurative with a fluid movement between what is there and what the painting is. I’m not concerned with getting an absolute likeness but something else.
I use paint in a relaxed way, changing perspective, with light and shadow informing the pattern, underpinned by a sense of design. I grapple with the subject and the paint until the painting emerges and becomes ‘itself.’
Tina works from her home studio in The Lake District and shows her work around the UK, both in solo and group exhibitions.
