Pip Bishop, (b.1956), graduated from The Royal College of Art, London with an MA in textile design in 1983.

She then spent several years in New York as a textile designer and on returning to London worked as an illustrator and textile designer.

On changing from designing to fine art I found working from observation and imagination as opposed to a brief freeing and exciting. Though I have always pursued figure drawing and drawing from nature I find painting has shown me different ways of interpreting what I see.

Painting from life, photos and imagination and allowing process and colour to form the image I try to capture fragments of the human form and nature. I hope that something is felt beyond what the painting is showing.

Working from her studio in West Sussex, Pip was shortlisted for FIDA (fashion illustration drawing awards) in 2019 and selected for the Chelsea Art Society Summer Show in 2025. Her work is in private collections in the UK and abroad.
