Originally from London, Boo (b. 1969) studied Graphic Design at Kingston University, graduating in 1991. She went on to run her own successful design studio in London, working for clients including The Institute of Contemporary Art, South Bank Centre and Soul II Soul.
A move to Suffolk saw Boo focus more time on her painting. Working in acrylic and mixed media, she has forged a successful artistic career by creating distinctive abstract works that embrace strong visual dynamics, colour and often, texture. Her graphic design background can be felt strongly in her paintings.
I create distinctive abstracts that embrace strong visual dynamics, colour and often texture; I enjoy the use of negative space in my work, allowing the image to breathe.
I work in mixed media, mainly using acrylics but love to use collage, oil sticks, and spray paint. I also create work using layers of glazes. My work is all about colour, feelings; that’s what I’m aiming for.
So many things inspire me, a painting begins with me painting colours in my mind and I am most inspired by colour that we see everywhere around us daily, be that in fashion or beautifully designed graphics, a building, interiors and of course nature.
It is sometimes hard to say goodbye to paintings, though it makes me so incredibly happy when a painting moves the collector emotionally, through colour and brings them happiness.
Boo works from her studio in Suffolk and has had solo exhibitions in her home county and in London. She has collectors worldwide, including in Europe, USA and Asia.
In 2022, her work was picked by Hugo Barclay, Director of the Affordable Art Fair, London, as one of his show highlights
We are delighted that Boo has been a Gallery Artist with us since 2021.
