Bridget (b. 1961) is a contemporary abstract landscape painter based in Cheshire, close to the Welsh border. She attended Northwich Art Collage in 1980’s, studying on an Art Foundation Course. Unfortunately leaving before completing her degree, a successful career in advertising in London followed. She returned to painting in 2020, during lockdown, when the creative urge resurfaced.
My work is all about the landscape and my emotional reaction to it. I paint intuitively using unplanned shapes and imagery to lead the work. I allow this freedom so that accidents can happen – these ‘unintended’ marks are central to the work. It is a balance between purposeful marks and shapes, to freedom and unconscious painting.
Colour is at the forefront of my work, for me it is the colour choices that create the emotion, the calm and peace that comes from a muted harmonious palette.
My work might be informed by landscapes that I have photographed and walked in, but there isn’t an intention to copy or base it on a real landscape. More often or not I recognise the real landscapes only once the painting is completed.
Bridget works from her studio in Cheshire, and since 2020, collectors of her work have grown rapidly. She has had her work exhibited in various galleries throughout the UK, and sells to private collectors throughout the UK and USA.
