Painting as Eva Ray, Laura (b.1980) graduated in 2002 with a BA in Fine Art from the University of Liverpool.  She then completed a Jewellery Design Diploma in Jaipur, India, where she stayed for 6 years.  Eva Ray Studio was named after her grandparents, Eva and Ray, and was founded on her return to the UK.

Laura’s work often references memories of her time in India, from colour palettes to fresco techniques and patterns.

Oil sticks and pastels have become my favourite medium, allowing me to feel physically close to the painting.  They also allow a degree of energy and movement through the pressure of mark making.

I enjoy working on wood panels, as these create the perfect surface on which to blend the oil sticks.  This colour blending is a process I love and often informs the next direction of the painting.  I work on multiple pieces at the same time to allow me to layer thin layers of colour.

My paintings assemble areas of colour in blocks to create pattern within these areas or within the composition as a whole.  I work spontaneously allowing freedom for the painting to evolve naturally.

Laura works from her studio in Kent.  An emerging artist, she already has gained a number of collectors in the UK and internationally.  Her first Solo Show here in October, 2025, was, unsurprisingly, a sell out.

We are thrilled to represent her in The North.
